I used to be an expert, double-black diamond snowboarder. I’ve hit steeps at Squaw Valley, gone off-piste in Austria, powder surfed in the Canadian Rockies, and parachuting down the verticals of Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. New Zealand was different.
